When ev’ning drapes all earth in purpled gown
Tarry I awhile upon green knolls
Longing for strength to fling my body down
and drown the wakeful anguish of my soul
for love and beauty all pervert and sour
and scarce-remembered pleasures all disgust
wilst hedonia lay benighted in her bow’r
all ever I have loved dissolved to dust
rebuked be talk of venerated sage
for in the very temple of delight
they say soft sadness pays rev’rent homage
wilst my mind’s halls remain devoid of light
though Melancholy tendeth Joy in rhyme
Yet I have ne’r gained entrance to her shrine
entranced ever by reveries of pain
in stasis held, by agonia captive
now malcontent to kneel at beauty’s fane
for loveliness to me no longer lives
on unknown paths clouded as darken’d glass
meander i alone through ceaseless days
on shores of the wide world, although so vast
no pleasures i perceived with veiléd gaze
aloud i begged relief from cognizance
wherein naught but oiziac strife abides
but nature’s deaf to agonized lament
vain howling stirreth not the eunoch’d sky
no succor awaits those whom life’s enslaved
until life’s carcass rots in putrid grave
drown’d in endless thoughts at evening’s close
fain to accept this extant life as real
and as i fell to fatigue’s cold repose
black wells of sickness did my spirit steal
weak hope calléd to seek a shred of worth
in finding what was sought, no treasures lay
powerless to turn ‘gainst constant hurt
in vain to blindly grasp at pleasures fay
to misery hath all travailings led
’tis true, new pains await at every turn
only a fool would rise from ennui’s bed
thus lie entombed, for all the world, a worm
when failure’s count exceeds sands in the sea
and victories hath ever prov’d empty
often i long that i may cease to be
trapp’d in a mind that melancholy shaped
as one glutted by proserpinal seed
the weight of darkness cannot be escaped
for when sometime i find a trace of light
yet still some nyctian thought within me burns
and soon quixotic comfort fades from sight
inevitably hopelessness returns
and when that melancholic fit shall fall
sudden from heaven, like a weeping cloud
i shall not flee from pain’s stygían pall
but sink deep, deep into her deathly shroud
though respite brief may come of pretty lies
the truth of suffering ever survives
about
Strains raised in thanotic reverie, these are hymns to the ultimate, dark beauty found at the core of anguish: erected monuments in homage to the common individual sufferings of humankind. This stark epistle renders four Odes on the varying aspects and embodiments of woe - and stands as the fullest, most realized statement of this art yet to be uttered.
At Dusk seeks to uncloud eyes blinded to the nigh-universal suffering inflicted by the overarching systems of the “modern,” civilized world - the alienation of bodies, minds, and souls & violent oppression in its many forms. This is not a celebration of pain, but a necessary acknowledgement: yes, at times, one’s heart could break in sorrow. May these threnodies stand as a stark and winsome memento dolori to those who have ears to hear it.
PRESS:
"You would be hard pressed to compare the music of peers such as Leviathan to At Dusk...Korihor takes his agony to biblical proportions."
-INVISIBLE ORANGES
"At Dusk’s “Anhedonia” perfectly sums up what atmospheric black metal is all about. The music constructs endless dark landscapes of instrumental wonder and fierce musical expression. This is music that you really have to be in a certain mood for, because the purpose of this style of music is to let go all expectations and welcome the calming darkness. Also, these songs are not for the impatient mind that expects the song to be simple and straight forward. Ultimately, I recommend this album for those who are willing to suspend their preconceived musical attitudes and enter the dark seas of unknown sounding wonder."
-ROCK AND METAL TEMPLE
"The band reminds us of a more depressive version of Mortualia with considerably better vocals...As a whole, “Anhedonia” is a pretty well spent 58 minutes of your life and will have you begging for some, so go and pick up the CD."
-INFERNAL MASQUERADE
"This is a Blackened journey that leaves the listener raw, bruised and emotionally drained."
-WONDERBOX METAL
"What we have here is a solid slab of bleakness and some really good atmospheric moments touched with occasional beautiful passages."
-THE METAL OBSERVER
"Hard to sit through, this album is cathartic and indicated for the fans of the style."
-DARK SOULS UNITED
"In my opinion At Dusk are a very great sounding depressive black metal project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album."
-OCCULT BLACK METAL ZINE
"No kitsch, no pathetic states, no superficial sounds. Korihor does a good job with its relatively tight mix of mid-tempo and repetitive black metal on the one hand and resolutely ethereal sounding synths and piano on the other. No outliers, no revivals and even less sense of frivolous entertainment, but Anhedonia still holds you from start to finish, with corners of your mouth crawling down as a thread throughout its runtime."
-ZWARE METALEN
"Here and there may be a graveyard intro that you could play at a funeral and there would be nothing strange about it, which happens in the first "Anhedonia" or in the third "Miseria" , but otherwise it's evil like a pig , where for even a hint of something positive is not the slightest place. Dirt, underground sound, troubled roar ..."
-SICMAGGOT
"All four songs move at mid tempo with an epic dark atmosphere, Contributed by the use of piano and keyboards as the dominant instruments in track introductions and other times in the background, the riffs on the guitars sound completely old school and owe much to the Norwegian side, while Korihor's deep desperate vocals and cries are just fine."
-GREEK REBELS
"Anhedonia is a symptom that results in an inability to feel positive emotions. This gives an idea of the depressive atmosphere that can emerge from this ambitious album where the lines of guitars are nothing short of splendid. The arrangements of piano, organ and the subtlety of sequencers and sound effects are quite welcome and well integrated into the overall mix. The four titles deserve all your attention."
-BOULEVARD BRUTAL
"Depressive sound from the abyss of despair with a synth sound, a piano that seems to express ruin and loneliness, with a relaxed drone struck in the dark space born of aggressive guitar! ! ! Thanks to the depression of USA! ! Yeah yeah!"
-ZERO DIMENSIONAL RECORDS
"I waited from the At Dusk's first album a continue of his experiments with atmospheric, deep and raw black metal sound as it was in a number of recent tracks, however he decided to create an album in more depressive style. Well, I can say he made a really great album, especially for this style, where it's enough hardly to make something new and interesting. With it the album has not pure depressive style (not "classic", if I can say that), because the music changes rhythm enough often, it's nonmonotonic; we could listen to the piano, organ or other keys parts, the floating guitar sound, not screaming, but sick vocal - all of this is closer to atmospheric black metal, than just to depressive one.
I advice you to listen for this album several times before you decide anything because it's a really talented work."

Not everyone will enjoy the grimly impersonal and (dare I say) coldly clinical feel of Bmokatak's sound, but for reasons I'm not sure I want to dwell upon for too long for, it really works for me. The buzz-saw guitar work, the machine-precision percussion and gravelly-throated roars create an unmistakable emotional atmosphere. Ben Harris
Crushing blackened doom from this German band that counterbalances blinding fury with moments of surprising, melancholy melody. Bandcamp New & Notable Jul 8, 2023
